Voice of the Voiceless
We find ourselves in a South African society where people in the townships have a need for guidance and for someone to walk the road with them. Township communities have a deep hunger, and are crying out, for members in their communities with certain scarce skills. It is our firm belief that the genesis of solving this problem lies with the children and that intervention should take place at an early age.
Our focus will not be on the child alone, but also on the parents. Much like a seed cannot flower without sunlight and water, so too children will not reach their full potential without the positive support of their parents. We know that with the parents fully on board - half the battle is won, and the child will find himself on a lighted path towards becoming a skilful, valuable member of society.
We live in a society that finds it difficult to produce professionals like teachers, writers, doctors, engineers and so forth. This has proven to be difficult even for those who have money, and have made provision for further studies. So if this class of society struggles with the attainment of these goals, what chance do township communities have? Communities with minimal resources and entrenched in a seemingly never ending cycle of poverty and drug abuse. It’s rare to find professionals hailing from the township, hence these are the people who are in the greater need of assistance. Our society has rendered these people voiceless because according to the upper classes, they simply do not benefit society at large. We intend to give them a voice, but not just any voice: a voice that will sing for generations, echoing for eternity.
The psalmist wrote, “Unless the Lord has built the house, the builder has built in vain.” We have a foundation, his name is Jesus. And like our LORD we will serve all people, regardless of nationality or religion. We will represent Him to everyone.
We will start with the schools, utilizing teacher’s reports. Following this we will visit and counsel the parents. There will be continued follow ups, with our ministry providing the tools and support for the community’s life journey.
Due to the fact that many children in the townships have one or more parents in prison, we will eventually extend our activities to the prisons in the Western Cape, and the greater South Africa.
